Crypto never closes. It still keeps hours
A popular belief: “crypto trades around the clock, so the hour doesn't matter.”
The data: the price history of a basket of coins, cut into 4-hour stretches. The stretch around the US stock market open, from 12:00 UTC, gets 1.93 times as many big price swings as an average stretch. It held in both halves of the history.
This says when prices move, not which way.
When a big move comes at the US open, how much of it is news, and how much is the clock?
