The weekend is not special
Some crypto exchanges let you trade stocks like MSTR over the weekend, while the stock market is closed. A popular belief: “when the stock market opens on Monday, it hits the weekend's high or low.”
The data: for MSTR it did, in 95% of 41 weekends. That sounds like a pattern until you compare it with an ordinary night: the overnight high or low got hit the same day 98% of the time.
Same picture for COIN and CRCL: 95% and 92% after a weekend, 100% and 99% after an ordinary night.
The market reaches a nearby high or low almost every day. The weekend is not special.
Does a pattern still look special next to an ordinary day?
